“Being Mortal”

by Atul Gawande

Gawande, a practicing surgeon, addresses the challenge of medicine to not only improve life but also the process of its ending.  He argues that quality of life is the goal for patients and families and offers examples of more fulfilling models for helping those who are sick and elderly.  Through storytelling and research he asserts that medicine can not only comfort but also enhance the experience of life even to the end.
