Centering Prayer in Community

Developed by Fr. Thomas Keating, Centering Prayer is a receptive method of silent prayer that prepares us to receive the gift of God’s presence in contemplative prayer, prayer in which we experience God’s presence within. This method of prayer and meditation is both a relationship with God and a discipline to foster that relationship.

Praying in a group setting creates an atmosphere where the mind is quieted more easily, a sacred community is formed, and one’s individual practice is supported by the group practice and vice-versa. Our Centering Prayer group meets weekly.  There are no prerequisites other than a desire to be present and receive.  Following a 15-minute introduction in the library for anyone new to the practice, the group sits together in Centering Prayer for 20 minutes.
